Five Reasons to Really Watch the Oscars

Five Reasons to Really Watch the Oscars, in spite of what negative things people may say. I think if you use my five reasons to watch, you’d be able to sit through a 3-4 hour award show that showcases the film world’s best, well maybe not the best, but close enough.

DISCLAIMER: Before I go into the reasons, the Oscars are all politics! PERIOD! I learned a long time ago, the Oscars are all about what production house needs the best push.  I.E look at why Leonardo DiCaprio has never won. But that’s just my opinion; lets get to the real reason behind this blog.

1) Who Wore What?

The Oscars are all about fashion. Who was the best dressed? Who is setting the new trends for 2015? You will always hear people discuss, who wore what at the Oscars. It will always be the next day discussion. Did you see what Jennifer Lopez had on? Did you see Kevin Hart in the all white tux with the black trim? This may be the number one reason people watch the Oscars. It isn’t the reason I watch it, but I do check out the pre-show to see what people are wearing.

2) How will the host carry the show?

The Oscars is the biggest award show in the world. Everyone tunes in to watch this show. You can’t call yourself a movie watcher and you have never watched this show at least once. The most famous people on this earth are invited to this show. The host has a big task to fill. Can he or she carry the show? Can anyone top what Ellen Degeneres did a couple years ago with her crowd interaction? The opening monologue explains it all. Although the host doesn’t come up with the material, they still have a level of control over it.

3) What was the best independent film in 2014?

I love a good independent film! It is film that features some of the best acting and filming because everyone on set is hungry to make it. There are no egos on set. The scripts are raw and full of life because everyone is looking for that Sundance big break. It makes for good cinema! The day I lose that hunger is the day I lose my edge.

4) Find out what films you didn’t know were considered the best and watch!

Hollywood decides every year, what and who were the best in there respective field. Whether it is comedy, drama, action, or fiction, Hollywood determines the best. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong, but I guarantee some are films you have never heard of. Those are the times you need to have a pen and paper ready. I had never heard of Birdman. For some reason, it slipped past my radar, but the Oscars gave me a little insight on it and now I plan to watch it. Argo was last year’s film that I put into my library. Thanks Oscars!

5) Criticize who won the best actor, actress, director and film.

The main event of night always features who was the best of 2014. Most of the time it is the person you least expect because you may not have seen his or her film. The anticipation builds for hours as everyone wants to know who is the next person to be named the best of 2014. I look at these awards as nothing more than a price tag. Whoever is named the best will most likely raise their Hollywood price tag, which means we will not see them in a big film again. It happens to everyone besides Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe (favorite actors by the way). The goal of most actors is to win a Oscar and when you do it, what is there left for you to prove? The gift and the curse of the Oscars!I leave you with one of the best Oscar accepting speeches I have ever heard. Enjoy
